INTRODUCTION TO BALANCE TRACKING
Balance riding isn't easy. You must be able to sense exactly where the horse is on the ground at all times. Every muscle must be relaxed. Your horse must feel that you're the one in charge. You must be able to read the horse as well as the ground. And you must be able to respond to that data in a split second. All of this takes years of practice. While there are many good trainers out there, only a handful will have the talent necessary to train a good horse for show jumping. Few of them will have the combination of talent and persistence to train a good horse for eventing.
Balance riding isn't easy, and it is definitely not something that can be taught in an hour or less. It's not something that is going to be taught by a book either. It takes years to train, and thousands of hours. In the past, when you wanted to learn how to balance a horse, you either got to train with a good trainer, and/or you could purchase a guide. But neither of those options are good anymore.
There are some really good books on balance, and some really bad books on balance. You can probably find books that are even better than the ones we recommend. But our opinion is that it's not worth spending a lot of money on an expensive book. Many of these books may have some good information, but you'll have to take the time to figure out what they're teaching, and then you'll have to figure out how to apply it yourself. If you want to learn how to balance a horse, you don't have to spend a lot of money to do it. You have to make a choice. You can either learn from the best in the world, or you can spend all your time, money, and energy on books, and a trainer, and only end up with an average horse.
